Roasted chickpeas

 

A true testament to my snacticality (snack+practicality) lies here is a recipe for the lazy food preparer. Here is a recipe for a fancy seeming hot d'orves that can be made from dusty non-parishables from the back of your pantry/bomb shelter/dorm/sorry-excuse-for-bachelor-pad in a matter of minutes. So, if you want something healthy and crunchy, crack open a can of garbonzo beans, and follow me.

Roasted chickpeas
  • Chickpeas, canned or dried, then soaked.
  • Spices. I have used lemon pepper and garlic, mustard, chili powder,and fish sauce, etc. Get creative, but keep it simple. You only need a few spices at a time - think of these as popcorn.
  • Olive oil
  • Salt to taste

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. While the oven is getting hot is a good time to get your spices together i.e. mince your garlic.  Lay your chickpeas out on a cookie sheet and add whatever spices you're going to use. Drizzle some olive oil over them and then pop that baby in the oven. Cook for about 30-45 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 15 minutes or whenever you can safely inhale them. Enjoy!
